Guide to Chariot Chase!

1. When you load the game you will have the option to either play on hard or normal mode. Choose normal in all circumstances. Scoring is exactly the same for both normal and hard. The only difference is that the chariots in hard move a lot faster than they do in normal mode.

Friendly Tip: The Chariots ALWAYS move in the same formation and pattern. Figuring out how each Chariot moves and where it will be at what time will be beneficial when navigating your Chariot around them. The track is shaped like an 8.

4. Starting your Game:

Figure 1-1

After loading your game, choosing difficulty, etc. you will be asked to choose an Alabriss as shown in
Figure 1-1. Select either Fire, Electric, Faerie, or Normal. All work fine.

Figure 1-2

After selecting an Alabriss you’ll be taken to your game. The Timer shown in Figure 1-2 will count down from 5 seconds and you’ll be able to start as soon as GO!, also shown in Figure 1-2, shows up. It’s my suggestion to hold down the up arrow key during the countdown, because if you wait to move at GO! the Chariots behind you will make contact and you will lose a life. The other Chariots have slight lag before moving at GO!. (Your Chariot will always be in the front row and will be marked with a green arrow.)

3. Power-ups:

There are 4 Power-ups/Obstacles in the game. They are activated when you drive over them. It is also important to note that as soon as your Chariot starts flashing (meaning the power-up is ready to disappear) it would be smart to count how many times it flashes. Your Chariot will flash 7 times before the power-up disappears. Other than the Dung Obstacle each effect from its respective power-up will last roughly 7-8 seconds. The power-ups are as follows:

* The Altador Sun Icon:

Figure 1-3

Power-upYou want to get this. The icon shown in Figure 1-3 will make it so that you won’t lose any lives even when you come into contact with other Chariots. This is a crucial power-up in the game. When you have it your Chariot will be glowing (as shown to the right of Figure 1-3).

* The Cloud Icon:

Figure 1-4

Power-upThis is another power-up you really want to get. As far as its purpose it works the same way as the Altador Sun Symbol. Unlike the Altador Sun Symbol, however, when you have this powerup there will be a bird carrying your glowing Chariot as shown to the right of Figure 1-4. You’re basically flying over everybody. Sadly you can’t go off-road though. 😛

* The Dung Icon:

Figure 1-5

Power-down: There is no doubt that the dung icon shown in Figure 1-5 is something you don’t want to touch. It will cause you to swerve out of control for a couple seconds. So just stay away. 😛

* The Timer Icon:

Figure 1-6

Power-down or Power-up?This can be classified as both something good and something bad. When you get down to reading about scoring you’ll understand why this can cripple you, but here I’ll focus on simply what it does. The Timer Icon (Shown in Figure 1-6) causes the other Chariots in-game to move at a much slower pace than usual. Simple, no? On a side note you won’t emit a glow when you activate this power-up, but as with the Cloud Icon and the Altador Sun Icon your Chariot will begin flashing when the power-up is about to disappear.

4. Safe Zones:

If you haven’t already noticed during game play. There are Safe Zones, or areas where you can hide. Areas where no Chariot will ever hit you, because they always move in the same formation and with the same speed. You don’t want to stay in these areas for long, however. You will learn why in the Scoring section of this guide below. These areas should only be used if necessary. For example, if another Chariot is right behind you, you may want to let them pass so you don’t risk them running into you. Nonetheless two of these areas are shown here in Figure 1-7 (I’d list more but these work the best in my opinion):

Figure 1-7

5. Losing Lives:

You start the game with “4” lives. You do, however, need to be rammed 5 times to get a “Game Over” because “0” counts as a life in this game.

Figure 1-8

When you’re rammed by another Chariot you will emit a red glow (Shown above in Figure 1-8) indicating you’ve lost a life. This red coating will flash 4 times before disappearing. During these 4 “flashes” you won’t lose any lives even when you’re hit by another Chariot, kind of working like a mini Altador Sun Icon or a Cloud Icon. I do not, however, recommend losing lives for this purpose. That would be foolish.

6. Scoring:

Scoring, for obvious reasons, is a crucial process to know when you’re aiming for a trophy. Scoring in this game is correlated to how fast you complete a lap. Completing each of your laps in under 10 seconds will award you up to or around 190 points per lap. The closer you cut it, the better your score.

Figure 1-9

As shown above to the left of Figure 1-9 you would have received 360 points for 2 laps. Now take a look at the right side of Figure 1-9. You had the same amount of laps as Trial 1 but didn’t complete each lap with an average of less than 10 seconds, hence the score is much lower (200 vs 360). If you don’t average under 10 seconds calculating your score is very easy as you just have to add 2 zeros to the number of laps you have. I do recommend that you try for the bonus though. It’s not that hard. I’ve gotten 100+ laps in the past. If I would have averaged over 10 seconds my score would have been 10000+, but because I keep an eye on my time and monitor it I am able to get 20000+ points. Talk about a big difference, huh. All in all just try to keep an eye on your time to score ratio.
