The “purge” is the systematic deletion of accounts which have been unused for 18+ months. It is opening up amazing opportunities to create the RN & RW UNs and pet names that were previously being wasted on those inactive accounts.
What accounts are being purged, & what happens once they are deleted?
As mentioned above, accounts that have been inactive for 18+ months are being deleted. Frozen accounts are also being purged. It’s important to keep in mind that not every account that was last spotted “a long, long time ago” is being purged- that status is given to any account inactive for over 12 months.
The pets on those accounts are deleted along with the account itself, and the pet names are able to be recreated, as are the account names.
Is there a pattern to how the accounts are being deleted?
It would appear that the accounts are being deleted alphabetically. The purge started with “a”s, and has slowly been working it’s way down. For example, the order of the accounts “angelx33445, aanndiass, azinhiilo, a12345678910, and a_12kkill” would be as follows:
- a_12kkill
- a12345678910
- aanndiass
- angelx33445
- azinhiilo
the purge then moved on to “b”s, where it is still at (at the time of the creation of this guide.)
How do I find good accounts/pets?
Perhaps the best way to find account names is to simply search the names you’re interested in & see if they are inactive or frozen, then simply wait for them to be purged.
As for pet names, it is best to search for the pet name and then find the name of the account on which it is located. If that account is frozen or inactive, then you will need to wait for that account to be purged.
What if I need to find the name of a frozen account that the pet I want is on?
By using the link
You can often find the username of the pet’s owner.
What if I want to see what pets a frozen account has on it?
By offering one of your pets to that account through transfers, you should be able to use the “offer your pet for one of theirs” option to see what pets are located on a frozen account.
How do I know where the purge is at?
To find where the purge is at, you should go to the Pound Chat and find the “Purge Chat” board. By looking at the first post, you should be able to get a rough idea of where the purge is at, or you can sift through the pages to find a more recent update.
You can also use the method of “markers”, or accounts located around where the purge is currently occurring that will more than likely be deleted. You should refresh that accounts lookup until it is deleted in order to “track” the purge.
How fast is the purge moving?
Very slowly. It has taken WEEKS to get to the end of the “b”s, so if you’re tracking a pet on a “n” account, you should feel safe for at least a couple of months.
