Creating fake screenshots, or “screenies,” is a process that can be done with some basic HTML knowledge and a few tools. This guide will walk you through the steps to create your own realistic-looking fake screenshots.
You Need:
- Very basic HTML knowledge
- The ability to take a screenshot
To Do:
- Download and install Firefox.
- Get the Firebug add-on for Firefox.
- Navigate to the desired page where you want to create your “screenie.”
- Open up Firebug by clicking the Firebug icon in the toolbar.
- In the top left corner of Firebug, you will see a blue arrow icon next to the bug. Click it, then select the word or image you wish to change.
- Once selected, you will see a section of code related to that word or image. The corresponding code will be highlighted. Find the replacement image URL or alternate text and insert it in the appropriate spot in the code. The page will update automatically with your changes.
- Take a screenshot of the updated page, and voilà! You now have your practically perfect fake screenie!
Tips:
- Be careful with spelling and grammar.
- To make the screenie look like it’s taken from someone else’s account, edit the sidebar (pet stats, etc.) along with the top bar for a more realistic effect.
- Be realistic; do your research on item prices and other details when creating a restock screenie.
- Have fun!
